Russia - Russian Orthodox Church urged to strengthen legal responsibility for child molestation in social networks

Russia (bbabo.net), - It is necessary to toughen the legal liability for child molestation, propaganda of pedophilia and other perversions in social networks. This was stated by the chairman of the patriarchal commission on family issues, protection of motherhood and childhood, priest Fyodor Lukyanov in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Lukyanov emphasized the inexperience and defenselessness of children, who, under the influence of Internet resources, can become easy prey for pedophiles. “Children become objects of molestation, post videos on personal accounts in the public domain,” said Fedor Lukyanov. “Nothing prevents perverts who watch such videos from starting communication with them, tricking them into getting photos that compromise the child, blackmailing him and eventually persuading him to meet in reality with the worst possible consequences. There are a lot of such cases."

The initiative of the head of the patriarchal commission is connected, among other things, with the entry into force in 2022 of the law on life imprisonment for recidivist pedophiles. Now such punishment will apply to recidivist pedophiles who abused children under the age of 18 (previously up to 14 years), cases where two or more children became victims, situations where this is associated with the commission of another serious crime.

At the same time, as noted by the chairman of the patriarchal commission on family issues, protection of motherhood and childhood, priest Fyodor Lukyanov, there are many gaps in the legislation, so work can and should be continued. In his opinion, pedophiles should be punished as severely as possible, even if the offense is committed for the first time.
