Plyushchev on Russia's victory over Switzerland: not the expected result

Former head coach of the Russian men's team Vladimir Plyushchev, in a conversation with a correspondent, shared his thoughts on the last match between the national teams of Russia and Switzerland at the Olympic Games in Beijing. Recall that the national team in the opening match won with a score of 1:0. Anton Slepyshev scored the only goal.

“The opening match didn’t go very well. The result was achieved, but the content of the game still leaves much to be desired. 1-0 for the Russian national hockey team is not the result that was expected, especially since the goal is illogical. Nevertheless, the task was completed, the points were collected. This once again proves that our competitors are growing, and we, unfortunately, not so much. Because we have been playing hard with the Swiss for many years, and the previous three lost matches in the season make it clear that this game should have been approached tactically more prepared.

Of course, the opening matches are always nervous - but these are the first five or seven minutes, and then everything should roll in. Moreover, the Russian national team is not the national team of Uganda, we have Olympic champions, Enkhaelians, albeit former ones. And the fact that the main matches are ahead is already clear, because out of four teams, three get into the playoffs, the only question is who will come out from what place, ”Plyushchev said.

The specialist also spoke about the game of the Russian team with a numerical advantage.

“I don’t know how the coaches solved this issue during the training camp, but probably the majority should work better. Because this is one of the indicators that the team is ready and has the ability to punish the opponent for any of his violations. So far, apparently, we are not very good in this regard, although the Swiss have not shown anything outstanding. They had a desire, there were unrealized chances - obviously, it’s not we who dictate, but the opponent and how ready he is to play, ”added the specialist.

Earlier, two-time Olympic hockey champion Vyacheslav Fetisov shared his thoughts on the opening match of the Russian national team.
