Russia - Court retains Krasnodar vice-mayor charged with bribery

Russia (bbabo.net), - The Oktyabrsky District Court of the capital of the Krasnodar Territory, at the request of the investigator of the Investigative Committee for the Kuban, left Krasnodar Vice Mayor Kirill Mavridi in custody, accused of taking a large bribe.

“Having considered the materials, the court granted the petition and extended the period of detention of the accused for a month, until March 3, 2022,” the Joint Press Service of the Courts of Kuban reported.

A loud scandal with the detention of Mavridi broke out at the beginning of last December, when the security forces came to the administration of Krasnodar with searches. By that time, the 42-year-old official had managed to work in his new position for only a few days. He is accused of having allegedly received half a million rubles for connivance in the service, and also took money for coordinating acts on the work performed. After checking, the vice-mayor was detained. The Pervomaisky District Court, at the request of the investigation, placed Mavridi in custody until February 3.

Recall that the defense of the deputy head of the municipality, not agreeing with this decision, challenged it. According to the lawyer, the recent appointment of Mavridi to the post of vice-mayor testifies to "an exceptionally positive assessment by the city's leadership of his professional and personal qualities." In addition, the appeal states that "the investigation did not provide the court with any evidence of the validity of the accusations of taking a bribe," nor reliable information that, while remaining at large, the official may interfere with the investigation process. However, the Krasnodar Regional Court agreed with the district colleagues, who were convinced by the arguments of the investigation, which considered that the choice of a milder preventive measure would interfere with the unhindered investigation of the case. The position of the court has remained unchanged to this day. According to the personnel service of the mayor's office of Krasnodar, officially Mavridi continues to hold the post of vice-mayor and is on vacation according to the submitted application.

As you know, just a couple of weeks after his arrest, law enforcement officers also had questions to the head of the administration of Krasnodar, Andrei Alekseenko, who also managed to work in his position for a little over a month. True, unlike his subordinate, the mayor (by the way, Alekseenko and Mavridi once worked together in the administration of the Tuapse district, and then the region) was absent from the workplace for a short time, returning to his chair by the evening of the same day.

And although the charge of taking a bribe in the form of an expensive hunting rifle from one of the developers has not been removed from him, he continues to work in his former position. As Kuban prosecutor Sergey Tabelsky explained to journalists during a press conference, the investigation of the criminal case was transferred to the central office of the Investigative Committee of Russia.
