Experts explained the sharp decline in gasoline sales at Russian gas stations

Russian gas stations record a decline in fuel sales. The deterioration in the activity of motorists is associated with the spread of the Omicron strain and a sharp increase in the number of cases in the country, the transition to remote work and snowy winters, which is why many drivers stopped using personal vehicles, writes Interfax.

In January of this year, retail sales of automotive fuel fell by 5-10% (depending on the filling station network) compared to January 2021, the Petromarket research group reported.

According to the head of the Russian Fuel Union Yevgeny Arkusha, there is a significant decrease in customer activity at gas stations in Moscow, which account for almost 20% of the country's retail market for petroleum products.

“We especially see a decrease in the flow rates for 95-octane gasoline. The reasons, I think, are that employees of many companies began to switch to remote work in January due to the spread of the Omicron strain. Now the process of switching to a remote mode of operation is expanding more, the authorities of the regions are taking measures to prevent the spread of the virus, so the trend of reducing the strait at gas stations is only increasing,” he said.

Earlier it was reported that the cost of AI-92 gasoline at filling stations in Moscow decreased for the first time since September 20, 2021. The weighted average price of the 92nd last week decreased by 7 kopecks - it amounted to 47.78 rubles. per litre. At the same time, diesel fuel and AI-95 gasoline continue to rise in price in the capital for the 19th week in a row.
