The chief engineer of the crab fishing vessel that sank in the Primorsky Territory died, and the captain was hospitalized. This was reported by the press service of the government of Primorsky Krai in Instagram.

“One of the crew members, senior mechanic Igor Somin, died, his body has already been brought to the surface. The captain of the ship, Yevgeny Omelchenko, was sent to the Zarubino hospital with hypothermia, ”the regional government said.

As a representative of the Primkrab shipowner clarified in a conversation with RIA Novosti, a total of 14 crew members were evacuated from the ship.

“The ship followed from the voyage task. During unloading, it began to sink, completely went under water within a few minutes. 14 crew members have been evacuated,” the company said.

The incident occurred at the berth of the port of Zarubino. There was no fuel spill due to the sinking of the vessel.

On the fact of the incident, the Primorsky Transport Prosecutor's Office began checking compliance with the safety of navigation. Rescue services and divers are currently on the scene.
