Russia (bbabo.net), - Symptoms of a new subspecies of the omicron coronavirus strain - BA.2 or "stealth omicron" - are coughing and loss of smell. This was told by an infectious disease specialist, candidate of medical sciences Andrey Pozdnyakov.

"The symptoms are similar to those of previous strains: high fever, persistent cough and loss of smell and/or taste again," RIA Novosti quoted the doctor as saying. According to him, it is advisable to immediately consult a doctor and undergo an examination, but the key factor will be whether a person is immunized or not.

Pozdnyakov cited Denmark as an example, where a high percentage of those vaccinated and an increase in the spread of this subspecies of "omicron" was recorded. However, in this country, BA.2 did not cause an increase in childhood morbidity and hospitalizations in general.

Referring to the experience of Denmark, the infectious disease specialist noted that "with a large percentage of immunized, that is, vaccinated or recovering people, the new Omicron substrain does not cause big problems."

Previously, Danish scientists have found that the omicron subtype BA.2 is more contagious compared to the original BA.1. The study found that people infected with this subtype have a 39 percent risk of infecting others within a week.
