Russia - Doctor Isaev: Omicron can lead to neurocovid and systemic inflammation

Russia (bbabo.net), - Infection with the Omicron strain of coronavirus can lead to neurocovid and longcovid in adults, as well as systemic inflammation in children. Andrey Isaev, General Director of the Scientific Center for Molecular Genetic Research "DNKOM", announced this.

Despite the easier course of the “omicron”, it is important to understand that if the coronavirus does not lead to pneumonia and mechanical ventilation, it may have other consequences, the doctor emphasized. He explained that the transferred COVID-19, regardless of the strain, can lead to severe damage to the nervous system - neurocovid and longcovid can also occur when infected with omicron. In children, against its background, systemic inflammations can develop, TASS reports.

The expert also noted that now is the best time to revaccinate those who have not yet done so, as the next wave is receding. According to Isaev, the vaccine provides protection against "omicron" and coronavirus in general.

Weakness, sleep disturbance and depression can be symptoms of "omicron" in older people. At the same time, there may not be a temperature, reports the Ministry of Health of the Komi Republic, citing the chief freelance geriatrician of the region, Natalya Dubova. According to her, COVID-19 in the elderly is often accompanied by unusual symptoms, this is a very risky situation, since a person can write off their condition as a common ailment and not associate it with the coronavirus.
