Spouses from Israel have been married for 91 years, writes "BBC". They got married when they were 10 and 12 years old and have been through a lot, but still love each other.
Zechariah and Shamaa were born in Yemen. The future spouses grew up as orphans and met in childhood. When the boy was 12 years old, and his lover was 10, they got married. At that time it was considered normal - the only way to stay in the Jewish community.
“Our life has not been sweet. We suffered. There is nothing worse than what we experienced,” recalls Shamaa.
The young couple did not even have their own house, so they cleaned out the donkey barn and settled there. Due to poverty and persecution of Jews in 1948, the couple fled to the new state of Israel.
Already in the new place, Shamaa and Zechariah had 11 children, now they have 64 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Spouses are often asked what is the secret of such a strong marriage, and the man has the answer.
"What's the secret? God sent her [wife] to me. I was lucky to get her. Women clung to me like sheep, but I didn’t take any of them, ”Zakharia said.
Shamaa added that they never quarrel and have lived this life happily.
