UAE abandons five-day work week

The authorities of the United Arab Emirates are transferring the country to a 4.5-day work week. Now it will end no later than noon on Friday, so that residents can be in time for the obligatory collective Juma Prayer. The reform is expected to have a positive impact on the economy as it synchronizes work and weekend schedules with the rest of the world.

Previously, Fridays and Saturdays off in the country, but now they will be Saturday and Sunday. And Friday will be a half-work day. But this should not interfere with the collective prayer, since the working day should end by noon.

The transition began with government employees, schools, and financial institutions. Over time, private business should also join them.

Last year in Iceland the experiment of switching to a four-day workday was considered successful, Nakanune reports.
