Roskosmos cut over 17,000 jobs in three years

In 2019-2021, the optimization of the number of Roscosmos employees amounted to 8.8%. The first deputy general director of the state corporation Maxim Ovchinnikov told Vedomosti about this.

The total number of employees in the space industry in Russia currently has 180,000 people, a representative of the state corporation pointed out. In three years, more than 17,000 workers were laid off - almost every tenth job.

According to Maxim Ovchinnikov, the reduction occurred for natural reasons: retirement and dismissal of their own free will in connection with the transition to a new job.

Most of the layoffs affected service and support services.

“This is due to the optimization of production processes, the transfer of part of the functions to outsourcing, as well as the sale of non-core assets,” the representative of Roscosmos specified.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State said that Russia could include a Belarusian cosmonaut in the crew of the International Space Station (ISS).
