Russia - How volunteers protect a nature reserve in the center of Tyumen

Russia (bbabo.net), - When the snow melts, the "Green Dance" group and the people of Tyumen who support the movement will again go to the Gorodishchensky log to clean up the garbage and lengthen the eco-trail. In winter, they carefully trample down the fallen flakes: about once every two weeks, volunteers go down, literally "under Tyumen", to a historical place - the Chingi-Tura fortress stood nearby more than four centuries ago. In the hands of there are feeders, bags of treats for birds, behind their backs are backpacks with thermoses and buns for a short-term halt. Schoolchildren accompany them on one trip, mothers with children on another, and photographers and actors on a third. In general, the audience is very diverse and not devoid of healthy curiosity.

At the agreed hour, we gather at the shopping center on Perekopskaya Street. Right from here begins the descent into the ravine. Ahead is the activist of the "Green Dance" Dmitry Velizhanin - a man whom every Tyumen official knows. The others follow him in single file. At the beginning of the journey, there is a beautiful ritual: the craftsmen, on the eve of the trip, frosted beads from water and paint, hang them on sleeping trees. In the depths of the ravine, several clearings have already been inhabited. Volunteers pour sunflower and pumpkin seeds into the feeders and change the old ice cubes, in which berries, nuts and grains were frozen, for new, more fancy ones.

I can't even believe that we are in the very heart of the regional capital. From here, from the bottom of the log, the city is not heard at all. Peace and quiet, which are occasionally disturbed by birds and the Tyumenka River, which does not freeze all year round.

- Last summer, from Perekopskaya to Kamyshinskaya, consider the bottom, we equipped about 750 meters of eco-trails. Next summer we want to make a route along the other bank of the Tyumenka, - says Velizhanin.

After walking for almost two hours, we finish with herbal tea in Totem Glade. There is time to talk about problems.

Gorodishchensky log, one of the deepest ravines right in the center of Tyumen, is a tasty morsel for contracted urbanists. There is nowhere else to build in this part of the city - on one side of the Tour, on the other - the railway, and between them - a rich street network and infill development. And the log, consider, 5.2 hectares, where you can oh how turn around: for example, stick a university campus and a sports ground or set up a geopark with alleys and sculptures. At first glance, the idea is not bad, it is aimed at young people and families, if for this it was not necessary to half-fill the natural valley with earth.

- We are called three main arguments in favor of the speedy development of the area: unauthorized dumps, stray dogs and sewer smell, - lists the activist.

But here's the thing. Last summer, volunteers went to clean the log by hand (they pulled out 70 car tires, not counting bags filled with garbage). When the paths were freed from rubbish, they made their way into the very depths of the ravine and found a sewer drain from private houses, that is, they eliminated the very "source of stink". Nobody's dogs were caught by experts. It turns out that environmentalists have managed to win back all the cards, but still have to protect Gorodishchensky from the increased attention of interested parties of various levels.

“Our task is to show the townspeople the potential of the protected area and protect it in the legal field,” Dmitry continues. - In fact, everything depends on us: if we continue to defend the ravine, I think it will be abandoned.

By the way, the campus could well have been erected on the slope of a ravine, then no revolutions would have been needed. Petersburgers offered a good project. True, the city did not accept it - it is easier to build on "backfill", it is more difficult to fit into the existing landscape, drive Tyumenka into a pipe and bite into difficult soil with long piles.

Note

It's easy to make an ice suspension with goodies for birds. Take silicone or metal molds for cupcakes, fill them with filling (berries, oats, millet, barley, fruits, sunflower seeds, pumpkins, zucchini), lay jute twine, woolen or cotton threads, fill with boiled water (so the suspension will be more transparent), freeze outdoors or in the freezer. When ready, hang it on a tree.
