"President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly noted that the training of professional personnel is a key factor in the development of the IT sector. On his instructions, within the framework of the Digital Economy national project, in the new academic year we will increase the number of state-funded places in universities in IT specialties by more than 2 times - from 80 to 160.4 thousand. Active work is also underway to create training modules aimed at improving the digital competencies of Russians for children and adults. This year, a new federal project "Development of the personnel potential of the IT industry" was launched on the basis of a strategic initiative approved by the Prime Minister ", Chernyshenko said.
Within the framework of the new federal project "Development of the personnel potential of the IT industry", this year more than 80,000 university students will have the opportunity to study at "digital departments". The programs will help students to form in-demand digital competencies. In total, by 2024, it is planned to enroll 385,000 students in "digital departments". And about 100,000 students in grades 8-11 will start learning programming languages in free two-year courses. The training will be an addition to general education programs and will allow the children to get their first skills and decide on the choice of their future profession. Last year the program started in 10 pilot regions. More than 31.5 thousand schoolchildren have started education.
In 2022, as part of the Digital Professions project, 57.5 thousand people will receive additional education in the IT field with state support. They will be reimbursed half of the cost of education. Graduates of the courses will be able to apply the acquired knowledge in their work or completely change the field of activity and reveal their creative potential.
Teachers will also improve their digital competencies. During the year, about 18 thousand teachers of higher and secondary vocational education will be trained on the basis of Innopolis University, and the educational programs of universities themselves will be updated in accordance with market needs. More than 40 professional standards will be revised with the participation of the expert community and organizations involved in the implementation of projects in the digital economy.
Dmitry Chernyshenko added that Russia still has a high demand for IT specialists. Only in January of this year, one of the most popular job search and recruitment portals published 86,000 vacancies in this industry. They are among the highest paid in the market.
