“The main thing is that a person understands this in time, accepts it and finds a comfortable specialist who can help him. We are still afraid of psychiatrists, although in recent years the situation has become better. And this is good, because people drag out their anxieties and depressions to severe forms, sometimes this leads to hospitalizations, sick leave. All this is treated, like any disease, ”Katorgin explained.

He stressed that over the two years of the coronavirus pandemic, it has been proven that the disease negatively affects nerve tissue and reduces cognitive functions. For example, memory and concentration deteriorate. In some patients, this manifests itself in a mild form, while in others it is severe.

“Someone got acute dementia, that is, dementia, thank God, there are few of them,” said the psychiatrist.

The doctor admitted the possibility of including psychiatric care as part of the medical examination for COVID-19, but recalled that according to the law, this should be on a voluntary basis.

Earlier, the Federation Council reported that an appointment with a psychiatrist could be included in the list of free services as part of an in-depth medical examination for those who have recovered from the coronavirus.
