Russia - Sevastopol will ask the Ministry of Energy not to build power lines in the Baidarsky reserve

Russia (bbabo.net), - Officers from the city government this week will discuss with representatives of the Russian Ministry of Energy the construction of a new power transmission line (TL), which was decided to be laid on the territory of the Baidarsky reserve. A 25-kilometer power line will pass through the protected forests and mountains of Sevastopol and can cause irreparable damage to them.

Public activists sounded the alarm last year, when in the foothills of the Ai-Petri Yayla they met surveyors who were working on tracing the future high-voltage line. Then the government of Sevastopol assured: the city did not give any approvals for construction in these places. Say, there is no need to sow panic. But the other day it turned out that a contract had already been signed for the construction of a power transmission line, and work would begin in the near future.

The line is needed to transmit electricity from the Balaklava TPP to the southern coast of Crimea. The new 110,000-volt line will stretch across the mountain range from the village of Shirokoye in the Baydarskaya Valley near Sevastopolznevoye in Bolshaya Yalta. Last year the project was approved by Glavgosekpertiza. And in December, Krymenergo JSC signed a construction contract for 2.5 billion rubles, the contractor must complete the work by the end of 2022. The contract provides for cutting down a clearing on the territory of the Orlinovsky, Ternovsky, Chernorechensky and Mekenzievskoye forestries of Sevastopol, while the compensation cost of the demolished trees is 38 million rubles.

The Governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhaev, assured that during the preliminary discussions of the project, it was decided to lay a power line along the existing forest clearing so as not to cut a new one. But in fact, everything turned out the other way around.

The head of Sevprirodnadzor, Yulia Gavrilova, said earlier that the department did not give permission to cut a clearing for construction, especially in the Baydarsky reserve.

According to public figures, about a million trees will have to be cut down for the construction. And there are simply no areas for compensatory planting of such a number of trees in the forests of the peninsula. The clearing will take place in wild, hard-to-reach places where many species of animals and birds live. Previously, there were only hiking trails, but now heavy equipment will require the construction of roads. The ecosystems of the Yalta Reserve and the Baidarsky Reserve will be disturbed. The caves on the Ai-Petrinsky plateau will suffer, part of the routes of the Great Sevastopol Trail, a popular environmental project, will be closed.

Anatoly Pryashnikov, member of the Sevastopol branch of the Russian Geographical Society, speleologist:

- It is not clear why they decided to build a new line, and not modernize the existing one, built under the USSR. Due to the scarce soils and lack of water in the Crimea, it is extremely difficult for trees to take root, they grow for a long time. Valuable forest lands and reproduction areas will suffer in the Baydarsky reserve. A mountain river flows through the gorge, where the power line will pass, feeding the Chernorechenskoye reservoir. With the appearance of roads, jeeps will begin to drive there, garbage will appear, the protected area will be destroyed. In addition, there is an ancient Roman road where archaeological research should be carried out. And on the plateau, on the territory of the Yalta Reserve, we found more than 20 cave entrances, entered them into the register of Crimean caves, this karst region is little studied.
