“In the Russian Federation, the rise in the incidence continues for the fifth week, the epidemiological situation remains quite tense, but it should be noted that if in the third or fourth week of this year the weekly increase was 100%, then for the second week [in a row] we see a slowdown in growth,” Popova said. Testing for COVID-19

The head of Rospotrebnadzor reported that testing last week amounted to 705 per 100,000 people. This is double the target.

According to Popova, this level “ensures timely diagnosis” of the coronavirus, which makes it possible to identify the disease at an early stage and provide assistance before severe forms of the disease can develop.

Popova pointed out that the percentage of patients with pneumonia remains very low. “The structure of clinical forms has changed somewhat, and community-acquired pneumonia of covid etiology accounts for no more than 3%, which is also associated with high testing coverage,” she said.

The head of Rospotrebnadzor also announced the appearance in Russia of a new test system, which will be "more resistant to the emergence of new mutations and will also be more sensitive."
