Interfaith hockey tournament to be held in Tatarstan

For the second time, Tatarstan will host participants in the all-Russian inter-confessional hockey tournament “Friendship Cup – Duslyk” at its stadiums, the Republic of Tatarstan reports. The initiators of the tournament were the Kazan diocese and the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Tatarstan.

A year ago, when the Cup was played for the first time on the ice of the lake near the walls of the ancient Raifa Bogoroditsky Monastery, its organizers confidently announced their intention to hold the competition on an ongoing basis.

This year, the organizing committee of the tournament received forty applications from those wishing to participate, ten of which received an invitation. The main matches will be held in Kazan on the ice of the Sports Palace on Moskovskaya Street and the Triumph Arena. Several friendly matches are planned within the framework of the tournament.

On February 17, the teams of the clergy and the Night Hockey League will play near the walls of the Raifa Monastery, and in Zelenodolsk the match between Ak Bars veterans and the Zelenodolsk district team will be hosted by the Ledokol Sports Palace. The guests of honor of the event will be the stars of the Soviet hockey Alexander Yakushev, Irek Gimaev and Vladimir Myshkin, and the final of the competition on February 19 is planned to be visited by Metropolitan Kirill of Kazan and Tatarstan.
