Russia - Former city manager of Saratov sentenced to seven years in prison

Russia (bbabo.net), - In Saratov, another verdict has been passed in the protracted criminal case of the former head of the city administration, Alexei Prokopenko.

The Kirovsky District Court of Saratov found the ex-official guilty of embezzling 40 million rubles. According to investigators, together with the employees of the management company, the mayor stole the money collected from the residents of the city for utilities.

A criminal case against the former head of the city administration was initiated back in 2014. By this time, Prokopenko already had a criminal record for negligence and abuse of power, in connection with which he was removed from his post. After the initiation of the third criminal case, Aleksey Prokopenko left Saratov and for several years law enforcement officers could not find him.

In 2019, Aleksey Lvovich, together with a lawyer, voluntarily appeared before the investigator. Last summer, the same Kirov court fully acquitted the city manager due to his non-involvement in the commission of the crime. Prokopenko's accomplices, who were convicted earlier, said in court that they slandered him under pressure from operatives. And there was no other evidence of the mayor's guilt, as the judge considered then, in the case. However, this acquittal was later overturned by the regional court.

Now, under a new verdict, the mayor received seven years in prison and a fine of 700 thousand rubles. He must serve his sentence in a penal colony.
