Russia (bbabo.net), - A 38-year-old diver who illegally mined amber in the Baltic Sea was detained by police in the Kaliningrad region.

According to the press service of the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Kaliningrad region, the violator was discovered during a many-hour raid on the water area by district commissioners and officers of the patrol service of the Svetlogorsk department. A kilometer from the coastline, they saw a motor boat from which a diver mined raw amber.

To dive under water, a resident of the Yantarny village used light diving equipment. His boat's outboard motor was equipped with a jet nozzle, with which he eroded the bottom and then collected sunstone.

More than 900 grams of amber were confiscated from the detainee. A protocol was drawn up under the administrative article "Unauthorized extraction of amber". The motorboat, water-jet devices and raw materials were seized.

As noted by the police, 34 similar protocols were drawn up in the Kaliningrad region last year, fines for 3.5 million rubles were imposed on unauthorized miners. The police also opened seven criminal cases under the article "Unauthorized mining of amber."

Punishment for unauthorized extraction of raw amber for the first time provides for a fine of up to 500 thousand rubles. Repeatedly detained violators are already brought to criminal responsibility, they may be imprisoned for up to two years and a fine of up to one million rubles.
