Senator Narusova opposed the ban on content about childfree and radical feminism

Federation Council member Lyudmila Narusova, in a commentary to Rise, opposed an initiative aimed at banning content on the Russian Internet related to the idea of refusing to have children (childfree), as well as radical feminism.

According to her, the parliament has already “stamped out laws” on such bans, and out-of-court decisions on them are unconstitutional.

“Content is intellectual property, and if there is a ban on this type of property, then it must be a judicial, motivated ban. But simply with a stroke of the pen of an official, such issues are not resolved. I am conceptually against extrajudicial injunctions,” she said.

Also, Narusova was skeptical about statements that radical feminism denigrates traditional family values and the role of women in the family.

“If you consider the ability to beat your wife as traditional family values, then, of course, this cannot be defended. Traditional values are not always positive. I am now fighting in parliament for a law against torture and an argument there that it has always been like this. Are the GULAG-Gestap methods in Russian state institutions also traditional values? Therefore, one must be very careful with such criteria and pathetic words, ”the senator said.

The document on the inclusion of childfree and radical feminism in the list of illegal content is being developed by Federation Council Senator Margarita Pavlova together with Roskomnadzor.
