The District Court of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug sentenced him to three years in a penal colony in the case of fraud and forgery.

“The verdict on Ivan Zhdanov’s father has been changed. Three years of probation was replaced by three years of real. I have no other justice for you,” said lawyer Vladimir Voronin on Twitter.

The defense has already said it will try to appeal the verdict. “The decision of the court is disgusting and cannibalistic. Yuri Pavlovich continues to be held hostage because of his son's activities - what could be meaner, ”Voronin said in an interview with Novaya Gazeta.ru.

The lawyer clarified that the court has not yet provided a reasoning for the verdict. “When we get it, the motives of the court will be clear,” he concluded.

The former head of Yukos, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, also linked the Yury Zhdanov case to the political activities of Zhdanov Jr. “His persecution was undoubtedly politically motivated and related to the activities of his son,” he stressed.
