Kaliningrad region appealed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs because of the transport collapse on the border of Lithuania

The government of the Kaliningrad region has asked the Foreign Ministry to provide assistance to those who are stuck in traffic jams due to a transport collapse on the border between Belarus and Lithuania. This was told by the press secretary of the governor of the region Dmitry Lyskov, he is quoted by RBC.

According to him, the main reason for the current situation was the change in the form of waybills, the difficulties in filling which delay drivers.

“And the modernization, as our Western partners say, of the software and hardware complex, which, accordingly, they have installed on the border, in connection with this, the throughput of these points has been temporarily reduced several times, so such difficulties arise,” Lyskov said.

Since March 2020, residents of the Kaliningrad region have not been able to drive their cars abroad due to restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic. The route through Belarus and Lithuania is one of the shortest routes from Central Russia to the region. Lithuania opens for Russian tourists only from March 31.

In this regard, the authorities of the Kaliningrad region took the initiative to remove restrictions at checkpoints with Lithuania and sent a corresponding appeal to the federal operational headquarters.

The Government of Lithuania has decided that since February 5, due to the change in the epidemiological situation, it will no longer be necessary to use COVID-certificates within the country.

From March 31, citizens of the Russian Federation will be able to enterritory of Lithuania if they have a valid visa and a negative PCR test or a certificate of vaccination with a drug approved in the country.
