The scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand warned residents of the European part of Russia about three supercyclones in a row. He told RIA Novosti about this.
“Now a well-defined cyclone is moving to European Russia, and then a supercyclone, and then again a super-supercyclone, that is, the pressure is very low, about 965 hectopascals,” the meteorologist said.
According to him, a series of cyclones is associated with the active pulsation of the Icelandic low observed since the beginning of the year, the region where cyclones originate. Vilfand explained that to the west of Iceland is Greenland with an ice sheet, and to the east is the warm Gulf Stream, and this temperature difference creates conditions formation of cyclones.
The forecaster said that in the center of European Russia, the April temperature will continue in the near future. At the end of the week it will be around +5°C, a slight decrease will begin at the weekend, and by Wednesday it will get colder to 0°C.
Earlier, the meteorologist, head of the METEO forecasting center Alexander Shuvalov said that a series of powerful cyclones with storms and hurricanes is moving to the cities of Russia, so on Saturday, February 19, wind gusts will reach 30 m / s in Kaliningrad.
