Gunzburg announced the development of a test system for immunity after a nasal vaccine

A test system for determining immunity after a nasal coronavirus vaccine has already been developed and registered. Alexander Gintsburg, director of the Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, spoke about this in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“Yes, a test system has been developed. We found a method, understood how to take a smear. Immunity will be determined not only by a blood test, but also by a swab from the nose, ”he said.

Gunzburg clarified that the registered test system had previously had a different application.

On February 8, Anatoly Altshtein, a virologist at the Gamaleya Center, spoke about the start of clinical trials of the Sputnik V nasal vaccine. According to him, the Sputnik V nasal vaccine differs from the original one not only in the form of introduction into the body, but also in the emerging immunity.

The specialist explained that the drug enters directly into the nasopharyngeal cavity, and the epithelium of this area is very vulnerable to infections. He added that the nasal vaccine gives fewer side effects, but the best option for protection against coronavirus is combined protection - both intramuscular and nasal.
