According to the Investigative Committee for the Novgorod region, the policeman is charged with abuse of power. The tragedy happened in December 2018. A woman came to the police and said that her 16-year-old son had been kidnapped, and a ransom was being demanded from her.
But the police, according to the UK, did not carry out the necessary complex of operational-search measures, in other words, they brushed it aside. They also convinced the woman that the teenager was just having fun, and there was no need to write a statement.
The teenager was found dead the next day. He was beaten to death with bats in a communal apartment on Herman Street. Two men were convicted for this crime in 2020. They beat the teenager, being very drunk, and, by the way, demanded 10 thousand rubles from the mother, allegedly for the son's debt. The investigation believes that if the police had responded to the woman's appeal, the young man could have been saved.
