The court of Blagoveshchensk ruled to recover moral damages from the Amur Regional Children's Clinical Hospital in the amount of 700,000 to 800,000 rubles to the parents of 10 children. This is reported by TASS with reference to the press service of the prosecutor's office of the Amur region.

In this medical facility, more than 160 children were infected with hepatitis C between 2009 and 2018.

In favor of the legal representatives of ten children, compensation will be collected for a total amount of more than 7 million rubles.

In October 2020, the Investigative Committee of Russia completed the investigation of the criminal case on charges under Part 1 of Art. 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (negligence). Asya Serga, deputy head physician for medical work, and Galina Platova and Irina Baturskaya, heads of the departments of epidemiology and hematology, were accused of the crime.

According to the investigation, as a result of the negligence of these medical workers, the hospital allowed the use of non-sterile medical gloves when handling blood transfusion catheters, as well as plugs for them.

The medical staff also used other non-sterile medical instruments.

As a result of negligence, 164 children contracted hepatitis C.
