Roman Chegrinets, co-chairman of the Assembly of Slavic Peoples of Crimea, said that the Russian status of the peninsula is an axiom that does not need proof, so “sooner or later” the UN will have to recognize it, RIA Novosti reports his words.

According to him, it is absolutely clear and understandable that the choice of the people of Crimea is an international and historical axiom that does not need to be explained to any person who has a minimal understanding of international law. Chegrinets added that Crimea was, is and will always be a part of the Russian Federation.

“The world has long accepted this absolutely fair maxim de facto and will soon enough accept it de jure,” the speaker stressed.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin named ways to resolve the conflict with Ukraine. Among other things, he suggested that the West recognize the decision of the inhabitants of Crimea and Sevastopol to reunite with Russia, as happened in the situation with Kosovo. He stressed that no one drove the inhabitants of Crimea to the polling stations by force, they came voluntarily and made their decision to reunite.
