The archbishop admired the giant mosque

A high-ranking Christian cleric from the UK visited a major mosque in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and examined centuries-old handwritten copies of the Koran in a unique library.

Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby arrived in Pakistan on Sunday and first went to the Grand Mosque of Lahore in Bahria Town, bbabo.net informs citing the Tribune. At the mosque, the English archbishop was met by the Prime Minister's adviser on religious affairs, Tahir Ashrafi, and other officials.

The priest did not hide his admiration at the sight of the magnificent architecture of the cathedral mosque, the project of which was developed by the architect Nayar Ali Dada. It is specified that the giant mosque can accommodate up to 70,000 worshipers.

Archbishop Welby toured the mosque's Qur'anic library, which contains handwritten copies of the Qur'an in 17 languages, created 300-700 years ago.

In the future, the guest from England is expected to meet with Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and President Arif Alvi.
