The garbage operator rated the cities for the quality of waste collection

The Moscow, Yaroslavl and Nizhny Novgorod Regions have become leaders in the "Green Rating" of regions in terms of the quality of waste collection.

The idea of creating the rating belongs to Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko.

Lipetsk, Novgorod and Ivanovo regions close the top twenty. Also in the ranking were Moscow and St. Petersburg, where the waste reform will begin in 2022 due to a delay. Moscow took 23rd place, and St. Petersburg - 73rd.

To compile the rating, the REO assessed the coverage of the population with the separate waste collection service and separately with the garbage collection service in general, including mixed waste. It also took into account the uninterrupted disposal of garbage, the dynamics of processing, the disposal of solid municipal waste, the scale and feasibility of plans to reduce the disposal of MSW until 2024.

The REO noted that each of the criteria has its own leaders. In terms of coverage of the population with the waste removal service - Mari El, Magadan Region and Nenets Autonomous Okrug; in terms of coverage by separate accumulation - Moscow; on the dynamics of processing and utilization indicators - Moscow and Oryol regions, Ingushetia; for investments in the infrastructure of MSW - Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Tyumen regions, etc.

The head of the REO Denis Butsaev noted that in the future the leaders of the rating will be able to apply for the consideration of investment projects as a priority, and outsiders will receive support.

“This is necessary so that each participant can effectively and quickly improve indicators in lagging areas,” he said.

Butsaev added that the rating was created to help managers and practitioners in government bodies, business and public organizations in the implementation of measures for the development of the MSW management system.

“On the territory of the Moscow region, about 7.5 million tons of MSW are generated annually (including 3.4 million tons - this is Moscow waste), which is about 20% of all waste generated on the territory of Russia. Thanks to the transition to a new waste management system in the Moscow Region, all 39 old-format MSW landfills have been closed and ten modern waste processing complexes (KPO) have been opened. In 2022, it is planned to increase the capacities of the previously opened KPOs, "Butsaev noted.
