Putin signed law expanding police powers

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law expanding the powers of the police, RIA Novosti reports.

According to the new law, police officers, in particular, will be able to enter apartments and other premises, if it is necessary to detain intruders "caught at the scene of a crime or hiding from it."

Also, the police will have the right to inspect "the scene of the incident, terrain, premises, vehicles, items, documents and other objects", as well as open cars, inspect citizens and vehicles, and so on.

In mid-December, the Ministry of Internal Affairs approved the procedure for opening cars by police. When entering a vehicle without the presence of the owner, the police must notify him of this within 24 hours, but it will not be possible to leave the car after opening it: during the procedure for notifying the car owner, employees will be obliged to ensure that unauthorized persons do not have access to it.
