Extinguishing the fire in the Tomsk hypermarket "Lenta", which lasted 11 hours, was significantly complicated by strong smoke and the threat of collapse of structures, the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the Tomsk region reported.

“The fire was assigned the highest - fourth - difficulty grade. It was not possible to find the source of the fire immediately: in the first minutes, the links of the gas and smoke protection service worked in conditions of zero visibility, ”the Ministry of Emergency Situations said.

The fire began in the afternoon on December 21, when the rescuers arrived, thick black smoke was coming from under the roof of the building. The area of ​​fire, according to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, was about 5 thousand square meters. m. 200 people were evacuated from the hypermarket. The cause of the fire in the Lenta shopping center in the Kirovsky district of Tomsk was arson. Police later detained a man who set fire to a hypermarket.
