Russia (bbabo.net) - Refined agave blossomed in the botanical garden of Yekaterinburg for the first time in forty years. The plant has been preparing for this process, which will continue for several more months, since spring.

Agave was grown from seeds obtained in an international exchange in 1981. Her homeland is Central Mexico. There it grows in small colonies on rocky slopes of ravines and gorges, among rocks, at an altitude of 1,200 - 2,500 meters above sea level.

Curiously, agave flowers are pollinated mainly by bats.

Agaves usually bloom once in a lifetime and then die. But this species is an exception. After flowering, she must continue to live.

As Olga Pervushina, the leading engineer of the greenhouse complex of the botanical garden, said, in the spring the employees noticed short sharp leaves at the top and realized that the plant was preparing to bloom. The flower stalk appeared in October and began to grow rapidly. And the process itself began only in December. Now the peduncle is covered with many greenish-yellow flowers.
