The press service of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine reported that the head of the private military company "Wagner" was charged in absentia with "encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability" of the country, as well as involvement in "waging an aggressive war."

It is noted that the suspect, according to the investigation, allegedly participated in hostilities in the territory of Donbass "by prior conspiracy with officials of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and under their control" in the period from July 2014 to March 2015.

Representatives of the prosecutor's office did not specify the name of the suspect. The SBU is investigating the case.

Earlier, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that the EU sanctions against people associated with the Wagner PMC are a violation of international law. According to her, the organization is not controlled by the Russian authorities.

The European Union has imposed sanctions against the Wagner PMC and a number of Russians who are somehow connected with the organization, the document was published in the Official Journal of the European Union.

The list contains four legal entities and eight individuals. Among the listed citizens, Dmitry Utkin (named by the founder of the organization), Stanislav Dychko (a "mercenary" of a PMC) and Valery Zakharov (a key figure in the "command structure" of a military company) are mentioned.

Prior to this, the heads of the foreign ministries of the EU member states approved sanctions against the private military company Wagner and against Mali due to undermining the process of democratic transfer of power in this country.
