The omicron strain was named the most infectious variant of coronavirus in the new version of the guidelines of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. In addition, the 14th version of the document included recommendations on the use of the vaccine for adolescents and new drugs against COVID-19. Health Minister Mikhail Murashko said that prevention is most important in the fight against coronavirus, and named the ideal treatment option in case of infection - the sooner the better. The Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation has released the 14th version of the guidelines for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19. This was reported by TASS with reference to the press service of the department.

Information on the new omicron coronavirus strain has been added to the list, information on the clinical features of the infection and its epidemiological characteristics have also been updated.

"The omicron variant, which carries multiple substitutions in the S-protein of the coronavirus, half of which are located in the receptor-binding domain, has the highest infectivity (infectivity -) among all SARS-CoV-2 variants," the Ministry of Health said .

The section "Etiotropic treatment" has also been updated. It added information about new drugs against coronavirus - molnupiravir, also known as "Mir-19" from the Institute of Immunology FMBP, as well as nirmatrelvir in combination with ritonavir - probably the drug "Paklovid", developed by Pfizer, or its analogue. In addition, doctors will now be able to administer favipiravir by injecting it into a patient's vein.

"Detailed information is provided on the preparations of antiviral monoclonal antibodies for patients from groups at particular risk of a severe course of the disease," added the Ministry of Health. In the section "Pathogenetic treatment", the specifics of prescribing anticoagulants were also clarified.

Finally, data on the Sputnik M coronavirus vaccine, intended for adolescents from 12 years old, was added to the list of recommendations.

"Gam-covid-vac-M" vaccine for children over 12 years of age has been included in the recommendations for the specific prevention of COVID-19, the department said.

The Ministry of Health previously noted that this drug was created on the basis of the same platform as the Sputnik V vaccine. It consists of two components that are administered to the patient 21 days apart.

United Front

Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Mikhail Murashko said on December 28 on the air of the Russia 24 TV channel that in order to defeat the coronavirus pandemic, the participation of every person is necessary.

“I really want to believe that everything will end, but it’s impossible to create a false impression that now one person will say, wave a magic wand and everything will become as it was before. Everyone's participation in this currently complex process and complex task is simply necessary, it is necessary for everyone to feel it, ”he said.

The head of the Ministry of Health also stressed that the preventive direction for the fight against coronavirus is the most important. “We do not have an ideal medicine that can save lives at any stage, basically all those drugs that appear today are drugs for an early start,” Murashko said.

He clarified that the patient should take these medications so that the infection does not pose a danger. The minister added that the “ideal option” of treatment involves starting therapy in the first three days. According to the minister, 78 million Russians have received the first component of the coronavirus vaccine to date.

November tips

In mid-November, the Ministry of Health has already updated guidelines for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19. Then the department clarified the rules for the use of medical oxygen for severe patients and the standards for its quality, as well as the dosage of some drugs. In addition, there are innovations in the sections on the diagnosis of invasive aspergillosis and invasive candidiasis in patients with coronavirus.

The 13th version of the manual includes explanations about the saturation of the patient's body with oxygen (oxygenation). In particular, the requirements for the quality of medical oxygen have been clarified. For oxygenation of patients on mechanical ventilation and under anesthesia, medical pure oxygen of at least 99.5% concentration should be used. Recommendations for the safety of oxygen therapy, supplemental oxygenation of patients and optimal oxygen consumption were also refined.

The Ministry of Health also changed the instructions on doses of the anti-inflammatory drug baricitinib for patients with mild disease who are treated in a hospital. Clarifications have been made to the section on the diagnosis of invasive aspergillosis in coronavirus infected (affects the respiratory system, usually proceeds acutely and progresses rapidly, causes shortness of breath, cough, fever, chest pain) and invasive candidiasis (one of the complex forms of fungal infection that can affect the entire body ).
