The Sovetsky District Court of Tomsk found the mayor of the city Ivan Klein guilty of abuse of power and illegal business. TASS reports.

“The court found that Klein, as the head of the local government, twice abused his official powers and illegally participated in business activities,” the judge said.

The punishment for the mayor of Tomsk will be announced later, after the announcement of the verdict.

Earlier, the state prosecutor asked the court to appoint Klein five years in a general regime colony with deprivation of the right to hold leading positions in government bodies for three years.

The official was detained in November 2020 at his workplace. During the investigation, Klein was removed from office, he did not admit his guilt.

According to the investigation, in 2016, Klein prevented a Tomsk businessman from obtaining land for the construction of housing, since it was adjacent to the Tomskoe Pivo distillery. In addition, as mayor, the man participated in the activities of the brewery. Another case against Klein is connected with the fact that in 2015 the mayor, in the interests of his daughter, ordered the head of the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning of the Tomsk Administration to give her a land plot without bidding.
