Novak Djokovic faces a prison term. Details known

Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic faces up to 12 months in prison for providing false information when entering Australia, RIA Novosti reports with reference to The Age.

According to the newspaper, when filling out the declaration, the first racket of the world noted that before entering Australia on January 6, he did not fly to other countries for 14 days, but during this period he traveled to Serbia.

It is noted that for giving false data, the Serb faces imprisonment for up to 12 months. Australian authorities are already investigating the information inconsistency. At the same time, the tennis player himself told the border guards that his declaration was filled out by the local Tennis Australia federation.

Djokovic arrived last week for the Australian Open, which kicks off January 17 in Melbourne. This year's tournament organizers require all participants to be vaccinated against coronavirus or have a medical exemption from vaccination.

The unvaccinated Serb was unable to go through passport control upon arrival in the country - his visa was canceled, he was placed in an immigration detention center. The first racket of the world appealed the decision of the border services in the Federal District Court, which overturned the decision to revoke the athlete's visa and ordered the release of the Serb from immigration detention.
