Manchester United footballer Mason Greenwood has been released on bail after being arrested in connection with the beating and rape of his girlfriend Harriet Robson, RIA Novosti reports citing the BBC.
On Sunday, the Greater Manchester Police on the official website announced the arrest of a 20-year-old man, whose name was not released, suspected of beating and raping a girl. On Monday, his arrest was extended for additional interrogations due to suspicions of death threats. Greenwood was released on bail Wednesday morning pending further investigation.
Earlier, Robson posted photos on her Instagram with bruises on different parts of her body, as well as with a bloodied face. In addition, the girl released audio recordings of a verbal altercation between her and Greenwood. The posts were later removed. Manchester United have suspended the 20-year-old from training and games.
Greenwood is a graduate of Manchester United and has made 24 appearances for the club this season, scoring six goals and making two assists. In 2020, the player made his debut in the England national team
