Zhurova spoke about past doping scandals involving doctor Valieva

Only specialists from the Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA) can work with Russian Olympians, Olympic speed skating champion and State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova told Sport Day, commenting on the work with Eteri Tutberidze’s group of doctor Philip Shvetsky.

“I don’t understand how a suspended doctor can work with skaters in the FMBA system. I am not familiar with the documents. Whether he works officially or just on a voluntary basis. The only thing I can say is that no consultants can work with the Russian team, except for members of the FMBA. For me, it is unacceptable if athletes and coaching staffs allow themselves to work with third-party specialists. No one except FMBA employees has the right to put athletes at risk, especially before the Olympics. This is the problem of those who hired this third-party consultant,” Zhurova said.

Shvetsky is a doctor of the Russian national team and an official member of the delegation of the ROC team at the Beijing Games.

CAS announced the timing of the consideration of the case of Kamila Valieva Olympics 2022 As the Championship wrote in October 2021, Shvetsky was a participant in a doping scandal around the Russian rowing team before the Summer Olympics in Beijing. Then six rowers were disqualified for unauthorized intravenous infusions, and Shvetsky took the blame, who was later reduced by the Russian Rowing Federation.

Also, Sport-Express wrote that Shvetsky was a doctor for figure skaters at the 2016 European Championships, during which Ekaterina Bobrova passed a positive doping test for meldonium. The doctor after this publication sued the newspaper.

In November 2020, Shvetsky was thanked by the President of the Russian Federation for his contribution to the fight against coronavirus infection, and on December 31, 2021, he was awarded the badge of honor "For courage and valor in the fight against COVID-19", established by the Moscow Department of Health. The FFKKR called Shvetsky "an anesthesiologist-resuscitator of the hospital for war veterans No. 2, a doctor of the Russian national figure skating team."

On December 25, Eteri Tutberidze's pupil Kamila Valieva passed a positive doping test for trimetazidine. The decision on her participation in the Olympics will be made by the visiting panel of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

RUSADA announced on February 11 that it had opened an investigation against personnel who had worked with Valieva.
