The best scorer of the USSR football championship in 1966, Datunashvili, died

Former Dynamo Tbilisi football player, USSR football champion Ilya Datunashvili died at the age of 85. This was reported on the website of the Georgian club.

The cause of death was not specified.

Datunashvili played for Lokomotiv from Kutaisi (1957-1958), and spent most of his career at Dynamo. In total, he has 249 matches for the Tbilisi club and 60 goals. As part of the club, he became the champion of the USSR (1964) and twice a bronze medalist (1962, 1967).

Datunashvili was twice included in the list of 33 best players of the season (1964, 1966). In 1966, he became the tournament's top scorer with 20 goals.

In September 1996, Datunashvili scored five goals in a match against Ararat Yerevan, and he did it in 27 minutes. He is one of six players in the history of the tournament who managed to score five goals in one meeting.
