According to information received by WADA, the sample in this case was not marked as a priority by RUSADA when it was received by the anti-doping laboratory in Stockholm. This means that the laboratory did not know that it was necessary to accelerate the study of this sample, ”the report says.

Valieva at the end of December 2021 passed a positive doping test for trimetazidine. The test results became known after the end of the team figure skating competition at the Olympics, in which the Russian team with Valieva won.

According to RUSADA, the reason for the delay in checking the doping test was cases of coronavirus infection among staff in the laboratory in Stockholm.

On February 8, RUSADA imposed a temporary suspension on the figure skater, but the next day it canceled this decision, and Valieva was able to continue participating in the Beijing Games. The admission of the athlete to the Olympics was challenged by the IOC, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the International Skating Union (ISU). The judges of the CAS field panel sided with RUSADA and allowed the athlete to compete in the individual competitions, which will be held on February 15 and 17.
