The Russian Ministry of Sports welcomes the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which made the only correct and fair decision to allow figure skater Kamila Valieva to participate in the individual tournament of the Olympics, said Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin. “I consider it important that the CAS arbitrators showed integrity, professionalism and carefully considered all the circumstances of the case. The adopted decision demonstrates the understanding and supremacy of the Olympic values, which are based on mutual respect, solidarity, and protection of the interests of athletes. Kamila is not 16 years old, she has the status of a “protected person”, CAS objectively considered that not being allowed to individual competitions would cause irreparable harm to the young skater, ”said Matytsin.
Matytsin noted that Valieva "certainly deserves" to compete in the individual tournament. “We wish Camila great success in the individual competitions. The whole country is rooting for her and our entire team! I am sure that our support will help her achieve new brilliant victories,” the Minister of Sports said.
