Chinese man jailed for counterfeiting 2022 Olympic souvenirs

A Chinese man has been sentenced to a year in prison and a fine for producing and selling counterfeit souvenirs with the symbols of the 2022 Winter Olympics. This was stated at a press conference on Monday by the deputy head of the copyright department of the propaganda department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China Tang Zhaozhi, R-Sport reports.

According to him, this is the first criminal case in China for copyright infringement of the mascots of the Beijing Olympics.

"Recently, Beijing promptly investigated and initiated a case on the production and sale of pirated copies of toys-mascots of the Olympics and Paralympics Bing Dundun panda and Xue Rongrong lantern, the case has already been sentenced. Convicted surname Ren was sentenced to a year in prison and a fine of 40,000 yuan ($6,300)," Tang Zhaozhi said.
