About 1,300 women take part in the Olympic Games in Beijing, this is a record among the Winter Games, according to Match TV, citing Yang Jirong, a representative of the organizing committee of the competition.
The Olympic Games will end on February 20. In total, about 2880 athletes participate in the competition.
"The percentage of women in these Olympics is the highest ever, it is 45%. This is a new record. At the first Olympics, for example, there were only 11 women, at the third Games a woman was already the flag bearer. Now we have about 1,300 women taking part in competitions," Jirong said.
