The head coach of the Kazakhstan short track team Madygali Karsybekov summed up the results of the team's performance at the 2022 Olympics, bbabo.net correspondent reports.
Today, February 13, representatives of Kazakhstan completed their performance at the Beijing Games in this sport. The best result was achieved by the flag-bearer Abzal Azhgaliyev - he took fourth place in the 500-meter race. Seventh at the same distance was Denis Nikish. And Adil Galiakhmetov became the eighth in the 1500 meters. Also, the short track team consisting of Azhgaliev, Nikisha, Olga Tikhonova and Yana Khan took fifth place in the mixed relay.
- How do you assess today's results guys?
- Of course, this is an excellent result. How many countries failed to achieve such a result and dropped out along the way. Our preparation this season went well, everything went according to plan. Thanks for this to the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the National Olympic Committee for the allocated budget and the conditions created. Our athletes performed well at the Games.
Abzal was just a little short of a medal. In the future, our athletes have every opportunity to climb the podium. The guys, our strong athletes, on whom we pin our hopes, also stayed at home. We will prepare everyone, improve their skills until the next Olympics.
Today, our guys showed themselves perfectly. Denis became the seventh, Abzal the fourth. This has never happened before in our country. In the future, we must improve these results.
- What do we need for this?
- We need to train athletes well and learn from us, coaches. We train athletes according to our existing knowledge, without additional study abroad. Earlier, I invited specialists from South Korea, China and the Netherlands to show their training system. Thanks to this, we have achieved such good results. If we continued to prepare on our own, we would not be able to come to this. In our sport, you need to train with the best athletes and the best teams in order to grow.
The Hungarians were recognized as the strongest today, and they were trained by an invited specialist from China. China itself also invites coaches from other countries. Thus, last year I also invited Andrey Maksimov, a coach from Russia, to join us. He was the head coach of the Russian national team. As soon as he was released, he became part of our team, along with his ward Semyon Elistratov. Semyon also helps our guys a lot, he is an experienced athlete who has something to show and tell. And our level this season, our results speak for themselves. It has benefited us, the team has grown in all plans.
Unfortunately, I cannot note the support of our federation. In the year when the Olympics are held, there are always many small problems. Especially now, when we live in the realities of a pandemic. At such moments, sports federations should be the first to help athletes. This is our third Olympics, but the situation is not changing. Our federation is in a hurry to report to the ministry only when our athletes win medals. And on the way to these same medals, alas, they are not.
Let's talk about the finale. What did our athletes lack?
- If we talk about the final run of Abzal, he waited it out. Because of this, he let the athletes go ahead of himself. He planned to bypass everyone from the extreme position, but there was not enough time. An athlete from Italy fell right in front of him, and Abzal had to slow down to avoid getting caught.
Abzal was treated for about a year, he had health problems. This season, he faced a difficult task: not only to recover, but also to get in shape, catch up with the guys and take part in four stages of the World Cup, go through pre-Olympic training. So he did 100.
Denis was going very well, but when he entered the turn, he took a little to the right, and the athletes behind him were able to bypass him. tactical mistake. But he was able to get to the final and fight there. But this happens in our sport.
- How about the result of Adil Galiakhmetov at a distance of 1500 meters? This distance was not previously given to our athletes ...
- Adil among them is the youngest, fastest, fearless. He has a great future. We have not yet had such athletes who could perform at every distance. He is an all-rounder, all-rounder. He has all the capabilities and skills to win medals in major tournaments. He brought the historical medal to our country in the "lorry". We have high hopes for him.
- What are the team's future plans?
- At the end of March, we are planning the World Championship in Montreal, we will prepare for it. The entire regular team must go to Ufa for training camps. They have a good base for short track. We spent all summer training there. They have areas for both cycling and strength training. And most importantly, there is no one on the ice except short trackers. Unfortunately, we do not have such a base. Arenas rent everything or use it for mass rentals.
- What about youth? Do we have a reserve?- Now our youth is growing up, showing good results. There are juniors with great potential. In the spring, we are planning a probbabo.net championship of Kazakhstan to assess the level of athletes. And we will already select them for the next season: who will be in the regular team, who will be in the reserve, and who will work with the team.
