FIFA set to replay Brazil-Argentina 2022 World Cup qualifier

Russia (bbabo.net), - The International Football Federation has decided to replay the 2022 World Cup qualifier between Brazil and Argentina, which was suspended on September 5, 2021.

In the match, which took place on September 5 last year in Sao Paulo, only a few minutes were played, after which outsiders appeared on the field. Representatives of the local police intended to detain four players of the Argentine team - Emiliano Martinez, Christian Romero, Emiliano Buendia and Giovanni Lo Celso. According to the Brazilian Sanitary Inspection Agency, all of them have not passed the mandatory quarantine due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The guests then managed to "recapture" their players and they flew home. And the match was never played. The South American Football Confederation sent all materials to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, which issued its verdict on Monday.

By decision of FIFA, the match will be replayed. Both football federations will pay a fine - Brazilian - 539 thousand dollars for security violations during the match, Argentine - 215 thousand for non-compliance with its obligations regarding order and security, preparation and participation in the match. In addition, each of the federations will pay $54,000 for disrupting the match.

Tottenham Hotspur's Giovanni Lo Celso and Cristian Romero and Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez and Emiliano Buendia have been suspended for two matches each from the Argentine national team who are playing in England and have not completed their quarantine.
