Ukrainian skier Valentina Kaminskaya, who passed a positive doping test at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, has announced her retirement.
On the eve of the International Testing Agency (ITA) announced the temporary suspension of Kaminskaya due to suspicion of violating anti-doping rules. Mesterolone (anabolic steroid) and heptaminol (stimulant) were found in a doping test of a 34-year-old athlete. The test was passed at the Olympics on February 10th.

"Dear friends! My career in professional ski racing has suddenly come to an end. It is with great pain in my heart that I write these words and still cannot get my head around that this is all - and that this way. I just do not believe it.
The shocking news of my doping test at the Olympics is a real disaster and almost the end of the world for me. It was a point-blank shot from a nuclear weapon that destroyed me and wiped me off the face of the earth," Kaminskaya wrote on her Instagram page.
The skier emphasizes that she never intentionally took the prohibited substances found in her doping test at the Olympics, but will not appeal the decision of the anti-doping authorities.
“It sounds trite, but I would never intentionally take such substances. It is not only forbidden, but also stupid on the part of every athlete. To my great regret, I will not be able to collect evidence to fight for the truth. Therefore, I can only survive this ordeal and hope that I won't get a "tower" for this crime that I didn't commit.I feel like a villain who did something horrifying, but didn't understand how.
To everyone who is now next to me at this difficult stage in my life, I am very grateful! And for those people who will be affected by this insanely unpleasant story, I sincerely apologize. Take care of your health and be happy!” she added.
At the Beijing Olympics, Valentina placed 70th in the sprint, 79th in the classic cut and 18th in the relay team.
