Russian woman caught doping left without a medal at the 2022 Olympics

Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva was left without a medal at the 2022 Beijing Olympics in women's singles, bbabo.net reports.

Valieva, who was in the lead after the short program, took fourth place with a total of 224.09 points. Gold was won by another Russian Anna Shcherbakova with a score of 255.95 points. The second place was taken by another representative of Russia Alexandra Trusova (251.73), and the third was the Japanese Kaori Sakamoto (233.13).

Valieva is 15 years old, she is the current champion of Russia and Europe, the athlete holds world records in both types of the program and in terms of total points.

The IOC decided the fate of Russia's gold because of the doping scandal at the 2022 Olympics

Recall, on February 11, the International Doping Testing Agency (ITA) reported that Valieva’s doping test dated December 25, 2021 tested positive for trimetazidine. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), despite the appeals of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Skating Union (ISU) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), allowed the Russian woman to the personal tournament of the Games in Beijing.

IOC communications director Mark Adams said earlier that Valieva's results at the Olympics would be considered preliminary.

The Russian team won 26 medals at the 2022 Games: five gold, nine silver and 12 bronze medals.
