The Ministry of Sports of Russia met the IOC verdict on the flag with “great disappointment”

The recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to ban competitions in Russia and the ban on displaying the country's flag at international competitions are very disappointing and inadequate in relation to Russian sports, the press service of the country's Ministry of Sports said in a release to RBC-Sport.

Earlier on Friday, the IOC Executive Committee called on international sports federations to cancel all scheduled competitions in Russia and Belarus and refuse to display flags, as well as the performance of national anthems at international starts.

The IOC urged not to show the flags of Russia and Belarus at the competitions Others “We met the decision of the IOC with great disappointment, we consider these recommendations inadequate in relation to Russian sports. In our opinion, their implementation will lead to a violation of the rights of Russian athletes. We consider it important for the International Olympic Committee to remain the guarantor of the unity of the international sports movement and prevent the politicization of sports,” the press service notes.

It is also noted that the Ministry of Sports will continue the rights of Russian athletes in this situation, as this is an absolute priority for the department.

“The Ministry of Sports is constantly in touch with sports federations. We will protect the rights of our athletes, which are our absolute priority,” the release reads.

FIS bans Russian anthem from skiing competitions Other IOC recommendations have already been followed by the International Ski Federation (FIS), which banned the use of the Russian flag and anthem at the official ceremonies of the remaining competitions under its auspices this season. The Russians will compete under their own flag, but the FIS flag and anthem will be used in the awards ceremony.

Earlier, FIS announced the transfer from the territory of Russia of all previously planned starts this season.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a special operation by Russian troops in the Donbass. Earlier, on February 21, the head of state signed decrees recognizing the independence of the DNR and LNR.
