Abramovich hands over control to Chelsea

Roman Abramovich, a Russian billionaire businessman and owner of Chelsea, has handed over the management of the football club to the trustees of the charitable foundation of the same name. This is stated in a message published on the club's website.

"In nearly 20 years of owning Chelsea, I have always viewed my role at the club as some kind of custodian whose job it is to ensure that we are as successful as we can be today and also to create the future by playing a positive role in our communities.

I have always made decisions based on the interests of the club. I remain committed to these values. That is why today I am handing over the leadership and care of Chelsea to the trustees of the Chelsea Charitable Foundation.

I believe they are currently in the best position to look after the interests of the club, the players, the staff and the fans," Abramovich was quoted as saying by Chelsea's official website.

Earlier, The Independent reported that they want to deprive Abramovich of ownership of the Chelsea football club because of "connections with the Russian authorities." With a corresponding appeal to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the MP from the Labor Party, Chris Bryant, addressed.
