Ex-world champion staged a “brawl” with a real threat to Canelo

American ex-world super middleweight champions David Benavidez (25-0, 22 KOs) and Caleb Plant (21-1, 12 KOs) staged an entertaining brawl on social networks, according to bbabo.net.

Plant talked about how he kicked the ass of his older brother José Benavidez in front of David. Father-coach José Sr. Benavidez said talks were underway for a September showdown. At the same time, he announced through social networks that there would be no fight, allegedly Plant turned on the back.

Columnist Jake Donovan explains what really happened: "I want to clarify that further conversations in social networks about the fight have never been discussed in detail. Moreover, both have already planned further career steps. On May 21, Benavidez will fight with David Lemieux for the title" interim WBC champion, and Plant will most likely fight Anthony Dirrell next.

In November 2021, Plant fought the Mexican Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (57-1-2, 39 KOs) for the title of absolute division champion - he lost by knockout, since then he has not entered the ring. Benavidez was twice WBC champion, twice lost the title outside the ring - first caught on cocaine, then failed the weigh-in.

Note that it is Benavidez who is considered a real threat to Canelo. The ex-coach of Kazakhstani Gennady Golovkin (41-1-1, 36 KOs) Abel Sanchez agrees with this opinion, having previously named three boxers capable of beating the star Mexican.
