Four-weight world champion retires at 34

Former world champion in four weight categories Miguel Angel Mikey Garcia (40-2, 30 KOs) has announced his retirement.

And the American did it quite imperceptibly. Garcia changed his status on social networks: "Mikey Garcia, public figure. Retired world champion at 126, 130, 135, 140 pounds."

Mikey Garcia is 34 years old. His professional career began in 2006. In January 2013, he became the world champion for the first time, having won the WBO featherweight title (up to 57.2 kilograms) and defeating the Mexican Orlando Salido. Subsequently, Garcia became the champion in the second featherweight, lightweight and first welterweight. During his career, he owned The Ring (2013), WBO (2013-2014), WBC (2017-2019) and IBF (2018) belts.

In his last fight in October 2021, Garcia unexpectedly lost to the little-known Spaniard Sandor Martin (40-2, 13 KOs) by split decision. The first defeat was inflicted on him by the leader of the welterweight compatriot Errol Spence Jr. in March 2019.
